DESI CULTURE IN THE WEST – FEATURING RAAS BRIDES

We’ve all enjoyed our NRI Cousins visiting India once in every blue moon and their stories of clean roads and centrally heated homes; however what excited us most were the sight of Lindt chocolates and those massive Toblerone bars and them of Indian Bazaars, of vivid nostalgia they took back to the land overseas they now call home.

Culturally, it is amongst common observation and the supposition that
the NRI’s are more customary than their counterparts in India and with the world knitting tighter, inclusive, and appreciative of each other’s culture the Indian Diaspora living abroad aka the NRI’s are embracing their culture like never before! This blog is inspired by the Desi Culture brewing around the globe and we are living for it, for we love seeing our Melanin girls and boys channeling the Desi experience.

WE MEET AT THE HORIZON

With relatives visiting- it was a religious practice of taking them around to your best ateliers
for the best Indian fit. Meet our brides from around the globe who rocked their weddings
dolled up in traditional wedding attires by The House of Frontier Raas! In this blog, we will
go through some of our International Raas Brides who married the West to Indian
traditional Silhouette- The Indian Wedding Lehenga.

Our stunning Canada-ian bride Aman looked like a Regal Queen in our peach pink velvet embroidered lehenga from the collection Riwaayat, a collection that was inspired and meticulously crafted for the Modern groom and bride with Indian traditional nuances. The peach lehenga is a love letter to the homeland featuring the quintessential Multi-kali flare, embroidered in precision needlework that reminisces the timeless precision crafts India has to offer. Perhaps, somewhere in British Colombia, our bride exuberates with joy whenever she looks at her wedding lehenga Perhaps, is reminded of home-the lush gardens & architecture that the lehenga borrows its inspiration from.

Jaiti Khosla our contemporary bride’s Reception look is the perfect inspiration for Brides-To-Be looking to strike a balance between Vogue –esqueness while keeping their Indian newlywed look intact. Our bride, from Sydney Australia flaunts an effervescent Bespoke Tule bridal lehenga intricately hand embellished with thread and pearl work for her reception ceremony which was customized as per her vision at the Raas ateliers stationed in India. The statement trail gives the ensemble a touch of modern decadence which she has styled minimally to accentuate her features, naturally. We at Frontier Raas are thoroughly inspired by brides who are always trying to push the envelope and break stereotypes and Jaiti Khosla does so whilst wearing our very contemporary ivory trail lehenga!

Anjuli our bride from the States reached out to us on our online platform in 2021 to select her Mehendi outfit, we
fixed her with our timeless Beige Ecru lehenga from the collection Printed Dreams, a selection of sumptuous
bridal lehengas crafted in vivid and sublime hues, illustrated with reminiscent prints that take inspiration
from the Indian countryside of lush fields, foliage, parakeets and storks! Anjuli has paired her Mehendi
lehenga with statement gold accessories that bring out the golden gotta accents carefully embedded on the
silhouette while she swoons and twirls elbow deep in intricate bridal henna-laden hands. So far from homeland yet so near-the power of fashion is immaculate, representative of culture, traditions, and your true essence. We are proud to be associated with brides and clients across the globe who are embracing culture, it is one of the driving factors that inspire us to go leaps and bounds to craft traditional wear in contemporary sensibility and design to cater to our counterparts living in foreign lands, here in USA through our worldwide shipping platform to support their visions for we know how limited the choice is when looking for Bespoke and Couture traditional wear anywhere outside India.

Meet Sumeet Sidhu our gorgeous- gorgeous Bride, who made a statement in Frontier Raas’s Bridal Couture. For her wedding lehenga, our Canadian bride from Toronto went with the quintessential bridal look by styling her intricately and heavily embellished amber gold lehenga with an oversized Nath (nose accessory) bindi, henna, and a veil over her head. For her reception though our traditional bride turned it around and chose an ivory net embellished lehenga which she styled minimally while ditching the dupatta for the ceremony. Our urban cool bride is fearless in her choice for she just aced the style game with the no dupatta and traditional stacking of jewelry, a true representative of a Desi bride in the west!

Zeena Shah our multi-talented bride is ace-ing in life with her much loved presence online, she is an art director, an author, a stylist - well she is all this and more- a complete aesthete, who has done it all! Her wedding was a fun-filled event of which she shared snippets online. Our London Bride chose the Peach Magenta Ombre Lehenga a couture piece from TARAASA our Bridal Couture Brand. Her Anglo-Indian wedding was a  magical confluence of contemporary and traditional themes and her bridal Lehenga fit right in. This bright ombre silk bridal lehenga is an impeccable display of all contemporary and traditional design elements coming together gracefully which our statement bride styled with her beautifully contagious smile.

Sharon Bain is our Modern Classic Bride who wore our Ethereal off-white raw silk lehenga on her big day! Looking like royalty from yore days, our eloquent muse from London! Her wedding vision completely blends with our couture brand Taraasa’s philosophy of balancing contemporary and traditional accents. The subtle white and bright Indian yellow lehenga is an expression of femininity and abundance crafted in detailed precision needlework by artisans from India. An appropriate way of immersing in the culture and incorporating it into the celebrations & beginnings of a new chapter in life.

We believe, no matter wherever you are in the world you must always be able to feel home a little closer, whether you are planning a wedding or attending one, you always must be able to embrace the same fashion culture established back at home. With a little help from Raas sorority let us together put our Desi culture on the map!
